About
On a cool autumn night, soft lights fall over the water of Pohang Canal. Nakhwa-nori is a traditional Korean fire play: charcoal powder wrapped in hanji paper burns slowly on lines strung across the water. It uses no gunpowder, so instead of exploding, the glow spreads gently along the lines. Two 75-meter lines set diagonally across the canal light up the night and the water — the festival’s main sight. The canal, once cut off and revived by citizens, brings together the “fire” of industrial Pohang and the “water” of restoration. With no ceremonies or celebrity concerts, the evening is just fire and music for visitors.
